You want to make an impact. You want your ideas to count. And you want to get your career off to a flying start.
We're the UK and Ireland's clean green energy champion. If you're ready to power change, one of our graduate development programmes could be right for you.
Applications for our 2025 Graduate programmes are nearly closed. Visit the link below to apply now until Dec 1st.
Whatever programme you choose, you'll gain hands-on experience across a number of exciting business areas. You'll develop invaluable practical skills. You'll build a supportive network. And you could obtain professional qualifications or charterships, such as IMECHE, ICE and IET.
Transitioning from student life to your first big career break may feel a little daunting. But we understand the need for work-life balance. So when you join SSE, you’ll benefit from our commitment to flexible working. We call it Flexible First. This could mean a hybrid approach with a blend of working from home and in the office or it could mean flexibility across the working week, where operational requirements allow. One size will not fit all – each employee, manager and team will work together to find the most suitable approach.
Land & Consents
On this 2-year programme, you'll be working to secure, maintain and manage strategic land and property rights across a portfolio of projects within your chosen business unit.
On our commercial graduate programmes, you'll work in various areas across the business such as strategy, sustainability, procurement and corporate affairs.
This 2-year programme is split into four six month placements across the SSE business units, with the opportunity to choose the areas you want to focus on.
Ready to power change on our Graduate Development Programme?
We have a four-stage selection process that helps us both find out if this is the right move for you.
Submit an online application ahead of the vacancy closing date. We’ll ask you to attach your CV and tell us about yourself. It’s that simple.
Our online test has two parts:
Situational Judgement Test. You’ll be asked to consider a scenario and decide the most appropriate course of action.
Ability Tests. You’ll be asked to complete tests that assess your Numerical, Inductive and Deductive reasoning.
If you’d like to get a feel for what’s involved, here are some practice tests. If you need any adjustments to complete these tests, please email us at graduates@sse.com before you do them and we’ll be happy to help.
If you’re successful in our online test stage, you’ll be invited to attend an online video interview. You can do this at a time that suits you best.
A video interview is a great opportunity to really sell yourself, but you may feel a little out of your comfort zone. If so, here are some tips:
Find somewhere quiet where you won’t get distracted. Be sure to switch your phone to silent.
Prepare properly. Make sure your surroundings are neat and well-lit, and you have a reliable internet connection. Test your audio and webcam in plenty of time ahead of the interview.
Practice, practice, practice (it really does make perfect). You’ll have the chance to rehearse your responses before recording, so make the most of this. It’ll help your final take shine.
It might feel a little strange but just be yourself, like you would in any other interview.
Stay focused on the camera and remember to smile.
When you’ve made it through the first three stages, this is your chance to shine in person! The assessment is likely to include a group exercise, a presentation, and an interview. You’ll be given plenty of time to prepare, and to inform us of any special adjustments you require.
Good luck!
