We are running two land & consents programmes this year across two different business areas: SSEN Distribution and SSEN Transmission. Together, our electricity distribution and transmission networks carry electricity to over 3.8 million homes and businesses across the north of Scotland and central southern England. Maintaining and improving this infrastructure is vital for a net zero future.
Across the two year programme, you’ll gain real hands-on experience, build an invaluable network and develop a unique set of skills that will shape your career.
Applications for our 2025 intake are now closed.
Careers in land & consents
Land & consents is a critical function across all our businesses. If a project is unable to achieve consented status, it can't move forward so we need talented, ambitious individuals to help us deliver the infrastructure required to achieve our net zero goals.
Once you have completed your graduate development programme, many graduates choose to continue to progress their career at SSE. There are many opportunities for you to pursue within Land & Consents including Consents Advisors, Land Managers, Forestry managers as well as other challenging and fulfilling roles.

My Journey as a geography graduate
Rachel studied geography and sustainability development at university. She was really keen to work in the renewable energy industry but wasn't sure if there was a graduate programme that suited her degree and experience.
She chose the land and consents graduate programme as she was really interested in the environment side of things and was excited at the prospect of getting involved in the planning of large renewable projects.
A focus on Green Energy
Adam was looking for two things in a graduate programme: he wanted to work with a company with a green energy mission and have the opportunity to be involved in the delivery of renewables projects.
Since joining SSE, he's had lots of opportunities to network with his peers and with directors too. He's also be able to visit many renewables sites at different stages of development, which he has really enjoyed.
