SSE’s IT / Operational Technology (OT) graduate development programme offers you the flexibility to learn and grow throughout your learning journey, with support every step of the way. Across the two years of the programme, you’ll gain real hands-on experience, build an invaluable network and develop a unique set of skills that will shape your career. Our grad programme is an opportunity for graduates to collaborate with various teams and departments within IT and OT, infusing fresh ideas and perspectives into our projects.
Once you complete the programme, many graduates choose to continue their career in SSE IT / OT as Security Analysts, Developers, Data Specialists, Portfolio Analysts and Operational Technology Engineers as well as many other challenging and fulfilling roles.
We offer both Generalist and Specialist two-year programmes.
Each Generalist Graduate who joins will embark on a programme with SSE IT, comprising of four six-month placements. You'll be involved in planning the ongoing development of your career with our guidance. Our generalist graduates are currently on placement in diverse areas such as Cloud, Data and Analytics, Cyber Security, Renewables Digital Ventures, Operational Technology (OT), and Architecture, and we usually have far more opportunities than graduates so there is lots for you to choose from! Our Specialist Graduates will spend their programme embedded into one specific Business Unit or Group IT team gaining an in-depth knowledge there as they move between different roles and teams within that area.
After two placements in first year, our grads have developed lots of new skills and built strong networks. In the second year you’ll build on the skills gained in your first year or develop new ones. Expect to have plenty of support such as:
You’ll also get the opportunity to meet and present to colleagues across SSE from the CEO downwards, with multi-disciplinary project opportunities. And at the end of your programme, there are a variety of different career pathways you can take depending on your interests and skillset. It’s a truly exciting opportunity.
The end of the IT / OT Graduate programme is only the beginning. Depending on the pathway you are on, there are a variety of roles that you could end up in. Some of the roles that recent graduates have moved into include Security Analysts, Developers, Data Specialists, Portfolio Analysts and Operational Technology (OT) Engineers and more. Beyond leaving the programme, we’ll continue to look after you with regular alumni forums to help you network, keep you informed and support you to continue to reach your potential.
