Base Location: Flexible Scotland, however, our preference is that you will be based from one of our key sites in Scotland such as Perth, Aberdeen or Inverness.

When the construction phase starts the expectation is that you will be on site and based at Broadford or Edinbane Substations on the Isle of Skye 5 days per week.

Salary: £40,600 - £61,000 depending on experience + car / cash allowance + performance-related bonus + range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

The Role

SSEN Transmission has an opportunity for a Site Construction Manager experienced in the principles of the construction and commissioning of major transmission substations.

The Site Construction Manager will play a vital role in the project team delivering the Skye 132kV Reinforcement Project between Fort Augustus and Ardmore and be based at either Broadford or Edinbane Substations on the Isle of Skye.

When the construction phase starts the expectation is that you will be on site 5 days.

The Site Construction Manager will typically become involved with a project in advance of Gate 3 of the LCP process and take responsibility for the construction phase of the project, ensuring that suppliers carry out works in accordance with SSEN processes, procedures and the contracted Works Information.

You will represent the SSEN Transmission business on-site, being the keypoint of contact for the project.

You will:

- Work closely with the appointed contractor and the operations team to ensure the works are delivered, in a safe and environmentally responsible manner, including; bulk earthworks, civils construction, building construction, air-insulated switchgear installation, transformer installation, earthing, building supplies, gas-insulated switchgear and busbar installation and commissioning activities.

- Interact proactively with the appointed contractor(s) and SSEN Operations team to ensure the works are delivered to the project programme, with appropriate resource levels and develop and maintain a positive and collaborative safety culture and community on site.

- Reporting and record keeping is an important and key requirement of a Site Manager within SSEN, you will be required to provide weekly/monthly reports to the Project Manager and ensure that the Contractor is providing sufficiently detailed weekly reporting as part of the project deliverables including records associated to the safety, quality and testing on site such as ITPs, KPIs etc.

- Ensure the project is executed in accordance with relevant requirements, particularly statutory and legal obligations, health & safety, Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, quality & technical compliance and internal & external stakeholder management.

- Ensure site activities comply with planning consents and SHE legislation and the design, and ensure routine reports and KPI's are submitted.  Keep comprehensive records and photographs documenting site progress and activities, to be prepared and submitted as directed by the Project Manager.

You have:

- Previous experience working on-site on the construction and commissioning of High Voltage Substations or other similar large infrastructure construction projects. Including experience working with multiple Contractors/Sub Contractors to drive construction activities to time and budget and an understanding of quality requirements with experience in monitoring inspection and test plans.

- A strong engineering and construction knowledge including safety and CDM regulations ideally within a substation construction environment and you must hold SMSTS 5-day site management qualification or equivalent and have experience in site management of similarly complex works in construction / utilities / electrical installation & Commissioning, and ideally be HND qualified in engineering or construction management (or equivalent).

- Effective leadership in challenging environments and ability to cope with conflicting demands, and have excellent planning, organising and communication skills including being competent in the use of IT (Word, Excel, ACC/BIM etc). You will be capable of challenging others, resolving conflicts and planning site activities.

- Understanding of NEC forms of contracts including previous experience fulfilling the role of NEC Supervisor.

The role requires a full current driving licence due to the requirement to travel to and be on site and during the construction phase you will be expected to be on site 5 days/week.
