The role

As a Senior Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading the coordination of multiple workstreams across a portfolio of major opportunities, and/or large technical programmes of work.  The role involves managing and coordinating multiple teams and activities against a programme of activity, that you will play a key role in defining and driving, to ensure the quality and timely delivery of all required deliverables in line with internal and external processes for individual capital projects ranging from £50m to £150m with associated total contract values generally over c.£500M. 

You will

You will take responsibility for allocated high value, high complexity opportunities from early definition stage, through the full project development process to FID, in some cases continuing through the construction phase to operational handover. Through a structured project management approach based on functional workstreams with clear deliverable schedules that you will produce, you will orchestrate and manage multiple internal and external resources and teams to ensure the safety, time, cost, compliance, and quality of project deliverables are achieved.

  • Ensure robust safety management and compliant processes are implemented to all projects in the allocated portfolio, ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of all individuals and teams, direct and indirect, through all stages of project development and construction delivery.
  • Take responsibility for progressing early-stage opportunities through the full project development process to a successful Final Investment Decision, and customer conversion.
  • Coordinate and manage all project deliverables and outputs within a robust and structured project management framework, ensuring compliance with all requirements internal and external, effective risk management, and project performance.
  • Inform and influence the commercial strategy and support the plan to win to commercialise and convert identified opportunities, in line with SSE business objectives and investment case.
  • Manage the production of the investment appraisal processes, business case development and all associated governance requirements and collateral under the SSE Large Capital Projects Process.

You have

  • Extensive commercial experience delivering large projects including negotiations with large clients across multiple forms of agreement in the c.£50m value range utilising contractual relationships and/or joint-venture agreements with customers/partners, and ideally main forms of construction agreement i.e. ECC NEC, JCT etc. 
  • Understand critical success factors associated with project and/or programme management and complex deliverables, including risk, critical timeframes, regulatory compliance, construction safety and quality, solution sales processes, and key account/ stakeholder management.
  • Preferably can demonstrate the development of projects through professional accreditation routes preferably APM or associated with project management career paths.
  • Has outstanding communication and negotiation skills and is influential at senior and executive levels.
  • Has a strong working knowledge of the grid connections process, connections reform, planning and consenting processes, and emerging policy relevant to the large power and data centre market.
