As we expand our Renewables business internationally, we are seeking a Procurement Contract Manager to help us build our expertise. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in a similar role, and broad knowledge of the Southern European renewable energy market to join our team and help us achieve our net zero ambitions.

As a Procurement Contract Manager in the SSE Renewables Southern European Business, you will undertake a strategic role managing procurement and pre & post contract commercial activities relevant to the Renewables business area. You will demonstrate value leadership, customer service and innovation to support the vision in becoming a world class provider of Procurement and Contract management services and embed a consistent approach to reduce the total cost of ownership.

Reporting to the Procurement & Commercial Manager, the Procurement Contract Manager will support to deliver strategies and contracts, providing robust post contract commercial management which will support business unit’s goals and objectives.

You will take key responsibility for: 

- Developing strong commercial and contracting strategies, then executing end to end procurement activities for essential works/services to meet the diverse needs of our Renewables business, whilst complying with Procurement and Commercial policies and procedures. This includes covering all commercial, business and legal project risks in contracts and negotiating terms and conditions, to ensure ongoing value for money throughout the lifetime of the contract.

- Oversee and manage tenders for the construction of renewable energy projects both equipment and services (Wind Turbines, solar and battery storage equipment, BOP/BOS, substations, high voltage lines, electrical equipment, engineering services…)

- Delivering all pre and post contract commercial activities including preparation of cost estimates, value engineering, negotiating/agreeing contract change and ensuring that the core principles of Commercial Management are being implemented. Whilst fully understanding the commercial impact of all decisions and delivery projects within approved budget authorisations.

- Developing robust pricing assumptions and delivering on commercially led solutions, to provide enhanced business case opportunities for the Renewables Business.

- Developing and nurturing key supplier relationships and engaging regularly with wider Procurement and Commercial Teams to ensure a strategic approach is investigated and all group leverage maximised.

- Post-contract commercial management including contract management, claims management and management of key supplier relationships.

What do I need?

To succeed in this role, the following qualities and experiences are essential:

We would love you to have an excellent understanding of the Southern European renewable’s energy market and relevant supply chains, with particular emphasis on Spain, Italy, France and Greece.

You will bring experience of developing, procuring and delivering projects, ideally within the renewables, energy or other relevant sector working on large scale, complex programmes.

We would also love you to have:

- Bachelors in engineering or equivalent qualification.

- Previous experience in a similar role where you were responsible for procuring, negotiating and managing contracts and associated risks, as well as managing suppliers and sub-contractors. Ideally you will also have experience of estimating, cost and budget management, and contract administration.

- Experience with main suppliers for the construction of wind farms, photovoltaic plants, electrical infrastructures such as substations and high/medium voltage lines as well as battery storage projects.

- Detailed understanding of commercial value drivers within a large and complex business.

- Robust professional skills including data interpretation, contract drafting, and strategic planning.

Language Skills

- Fluent in Spanish and English is required. 

- Highly valuable other European language (Italian or French desirable).
