Base Location: For this role, we require the successful applicant to be based from one of our Scottish locations – Aberdeen or Inverness.

Salary: £58,630 - £68,098 + car allowance + eligible for overtime + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

SSEN Transmission are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented HVDC Operations Engineer, who will focus on Control Systems, to join our dynamic Asset Management & Operations (AM&O) team on a permanent basis. In this vital role, you will play a key part in the delivery of the Operations, Maintenance and Commissioning of all HVDC Converter Stations currently in service, and those that are currently in project execution phase. The successful candidate shall also support the execution of HVDC and FACTS Service Level Agreements for the AM&O team. You will

- Lead Operations team on works related to HVDC / FACTS Control Systems, including review and approval of software / code changes, testing of proposed changes on replica systems (where appropriate), and provide witnessing support and verification of software / code changes at site level when ready to deploy on to operational systems. Ensure strict revision control practices and procedures are adhered to.

- Where necessary, provide first line support at site in the event of Converter faults and critical alarms relating to Control & Protection Systems. Support the coordination and supervision of Contractors performing fault finding and troubleshooting activities, emergency repair / replacement of components and execution of site verification activities allowing HVDC / FACTS assets to be returned to service. Liaise with Technical Services teams for support on traditional IED protection schemes as required.

- Lead Operations team for upgrade / refurbishment projects relating to HVDC / FACTS Control Systems. Work closely with wider Transmission Operations and Engineering teams to ensure these projects are delivered in accordance with SSEN Transmission Policy & Standards, on programme and within budget.

- Lead Operations team regular engagement with live HVDC Projects at Gate stages, and attend regular design review meetings ensuring Operations and Maintenance requirements for HVDC / FACTS Control Systems are embedded into project designs. You will also support the witnessing of Factory System Tests and Site Acceptance Tests as required for new HVDC / FACTS Control & Protection Systems.

- Work closely with our Technical Services (AC Protection & Control and SCADA) and Operational Technology teams to ensure regular inspection and maintenance working practices are consistent across Transmission Operations teams in relation to Control Systems.

You have

- Experience in the design, Factory System Testing and/or Site Acceptance Testing of HVDC / FACTS Control Systems. Experience with MACH2, MACH3 or SIMATIC systems is advantageous.

- Experience in the Operational and Maintenance life cycle of HVDC / FACTS assets.

- Ability to deliver within challenging timescales, the ability to effectively prioritise, plan and organise, balance immediate and long-term business priorities.

- Ability to create strong relationships with AM&O team members, engineers, managers, procurement, and external Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM). Excellent verbal and written communication and solid presentation skills are required.

- Due to the location of our projects, there is a need to have an applicable driver's license.
