The role

The Lead Energy Policy Manager, Industry Change will proactively determine the required Transmission/Distribution (T/D) operating structure and policy needed to support the transition to a low carbon economy. This role involves identifying elements of the current GB energy market and policy structures that support or hinder the delivery of Net Zero and proposing alternative structures to address these issues. The role requires collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to support advocacy principles and gain support for reform.

You will

- Ensure all activities promote a healthy, compliant workplace in line with legislation and SSE procedures.

- Lead the development and implementation of the T/D Interface Strategy, aligning objectives across senior Transmission and Distribution leadership.

- Foster and manage external relationships to support T/D coordination, engaging with key organisations like ENA, NESO (RESP), and Scottish Renewables.

- Identify and address barriers to T/D coordination across policy, regulation, data, and energy codes, maintaining a programme of targeted interventions and an active risk register.

- Serve as SSEN Transmission’s subject matter expert on T/D operations and policy, including connections, codes (CUSC, STC, SQSS), electricity markets, and investment economics.

You have

- Demonstrable ability to challenge the status quo, propose creative solutions, and deliver innovative business improvements.

- Strong analytical skills with an evidence-based approach to shaping T/D operating structures and policy recommendations.

- Effective communication skills, adept at conveying complex market operations and reform strategies to secure stakeholder support.

- In-depth understanding of the GB Networks business, developed through commercial, regulatory, and legal experience.

- Proven experience engaging with key external stakeholders, including the System Operator, Ofgem, government bodies, and industry organisations.
