The role

We’re looking for a Financial Modelling Analyst to join our Business Development Team in Southern Europe team and help shape SSE’s investment, M&A and bidding strategy across the region. This is an exciting opportunity to work on high-impact renewable energy projects as we accelerate the transition to Net Zero.

You’ll play a key role in assessing development assets, analysing complex transactions, and supporting decision-making at the highest levels of the business, including Executive Committees.

You will

  • Build and maintain advanced financial models to support investment appraisals, M&A transactions and competitive bids across renewable energy technologies.
  • Carry out scenario and sensitivity analysis to assess project risks and returns, helping stakeholders make confident, data-driven decisions.
  • Contribute to the full lifecycle of investment assessments—from early evaluation to final recommendations and commercial negotiations.
  • Work closely with development, procurement, engineering, energy economics, tax, and corporate finance teams to gather and validate inputs for your analysis.
  • Analyse market trends, regulatory frameworks and policy developments in Spain and Southern Europe to understand their impact on project economics and valuations.

You have

  • Experience in financial modelling, ideally within energy or related sectors.
  • Advanced Excel skills (including macros, VBA and dynamic modelling techniques) and a passion for building high-accuracy, reliable models.
  • An understanding of renewable energy technologies and how energy markets operate in Spain and Europe.
  • Clear, confident communication skills in English and Spanish, with the ability to prepare high-quality updates, presentations and papers for senior decision-makers.
  • Some experience with valuations, due diligence, or other corporate finance activities—along with a willingness to learn and develop further.
