The role

At SSE Renewables, we’re accelerating the transition to a net-zero energy system. We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Project Engineer to join our Onshore Wind, Solar and BESS (OWSB) Project Engineering team, supporting the delivery of large-scale renewable energy projects across the UK and Ireland.

This is a pivotal role within SSE plc’s Net Zero Acceleration Programme Plus (NZAP+), where you will lead engineering coordination across onshore wind, solar and battery storage projects, ensuring safe, high-quality delivery on time and within budget.

Working closely with multidisciplinary teams across development and construction phases, you will drive engineering excellence, value engineering and robust technical governance across a growing portfolio of renewable projects.

 You will

  • Lead engineering delivery for OWSB projects, ensuring alignment with project governance, risk management, quality assurance and health & safety requirements.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams across development and construction phases for onshore renewable projects in the UK and Ireland.
  • Drive value engineering by identifying opportunities for design optimisation, innovation and continuous improvement across the project portfolio.
  • Ensure technical governance and design assurance, implementing the requirements of SSE’s governance framework to deliver safe, high-quality and cost-effective engineering solutions.
  • Champion safety and compliance, acting as Principal Designer under CDM Regulations 2015 or Principal Supervisor Design Phase (PSDP) under Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, and embedding SSE’s “If it’s not safe, we don’t do it” safety culture.

You have

  • A degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience in a lead project engineering role delivering complex infrastructure or energy projects.
  • Proven experience coordinating engineering activities within multidisciplinary teams across the full project lifecycle from development through to construction.
  • Experience delivering technical assurance and governance on large capital projects, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and project controls.
  • Strong knowledge of health & safety legislation, project risk management, programmes and industry-standard contracts such as **NEC contracts and FIDIC contracts.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the flexibility to work across multiple locations including extended periods on project sites.
