Base Location: You'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the  London

Salary: £50,100 - £60,000k dependent on experience, performance-related bonus, plus a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

Reporting to the Head of Public Affairs, as Public Affairs Manager you will protect and enhance the reputation of the SSE Group, and its businesses, through effective engagement with political stakeholders in UK and Scottish Governments, Parliaments and the wider stakeholder environment.

You will

  • You will do this by focusing on commercially valuable issues and helping to run campaigns which deliver material commercial outcomes and represent the views of shareholders, employees and customers, and wider society.
  • Building a network amongst key external stakeholders, you will become a trusted counsel internally and externally on key issues, guided by SSE's values.
  • You will support the delivery of SSE's corporate affairs strategy and advocacy priorities through regular contact with politicians, political advisers, civil servants and other external stakeholders to inform them of SSE's work and seek constructively to influence the policy landscape in line with societal and SSE's corporate objectives.
  • Monitor the political landscape, the development of policy, and proceedings of relevant legislative bodies including UK and Scottish Parliament. Coordinating the SSE group's contribution to the policy making process including submissions to relevant consultations or Parliamentary inquiries.
  • Providing your analysis of key developments to an internal audience, informing senior colleagues on the commercial implications of the SSE group, and preparing high-quality briefing materials for members of SSE's Executive Committee, to support external engagement with key political stakeholders.

You have

    • A well‑established network across key political stakeholder groups, with the ability to leverage relationships to support SSE’s policy objectives and influence.
    • Strong political judgement and the ability to interpret fast‑moving political, regulatory and policy developments, advising senior colleagues on risks, opportunities and implications for the business.
    • An ability to demonstrate the use of public affairs strategies to achieve sustainable commercial outcomes.
    • A first-class strategic thinking ability, strong interpersonal and influencing skills combined with a proactive approach to work and excellent verbal, presentation and written communication capabilities.
    • Experience in developing and delivering integrated advocacy campaigns that influence policy outcomes, shape debate, and support commercial objectives.
    • An understanding of the GB energy system is desirable but not a requirement.
