The role
At SSE, we're leading the way in delivering low-carbon heat networks across the UK. As a Commissioning Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in the acceptance and operational readiness of district energy systems, including energy centres and heat networks. You'll define commissioning strategies, witness tests, and ensure systems meet performance, safety, and documentation standards before handover.
This is a hands-on, technically critical role that acts as the key interface between project teams, contractors, and our Operations & Maintenance colleagues.
You will
Define and document project-specific commissioning requirements and plans.
Specify the inspections, tests, and handover procedures for new energy centres and heat networks.
Lead or support factory and site acceptance testing, including energisation of plant systems.
Ensure commissioning documentation, test records, and O&M manuals are completed and transferred to the operations team.
Identify and help resolve commissioning issues, particularly those affecting metering and safety-critical systems.
You have
A degree in an engineering or related technical field would be preferred, but we will also consider extensive commissioning or project delivery experience on construction or infrastructure projects.
Solid understanding of building services systems, particularly within district heating/cooling networks.
Experience interpreting test reports, design drawings/schematics, commissioning schedules, and regulatory documentation.
Deep knowledge of commissioning standards (e.g., CIBSE, BSRIA).
Familiarity with CDM, DSEAR, Pressure Systems, Fire Safety, and British/European standards.
