Control Support Engineer - Emergency Preparedness

Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations – Perth 

Salary: Salary: £64,085 - £76,581 + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Control Support - Emergency Preparedness Engineer to join SSEN Transmission’s Control Centre in Perth.

As part of the Operational Resilience team, you’ll support real-time control, outage planning and system readiness, through the design and continual improvement of emergency preparedness, response and business continuity arrangements. You’ll develop processes and strategies that strengthen regulatory and statutory compliance, operational performance and emergency preparedness, working closely with internal and external stakeholders.

You will 

• Act as expert support for our control teams, from operational planning to commissioning to real time operation, by assessing operational risks and translating them into preparedness documentation. 

• Develop, review and manage key emergency planning and preparedness, emergency response and major incident documentation, to ensure continued operation of the network during critical and emergency scenarios. 

• Maintain assurance records, ensure Network Control compliance with Operational Safety Rule, Grid Code, System Operator – Transmission Owner code, and OFGEM requirements. 

• Provide technical input during incidents and support effective command, control and decision-making. Coordinate post-incident and post-exercise reviews and embed lessons learned.

• Lead representation at internal and external working groups and take part in discussions with industry partners including OFGEM, NESO, TO & DNO. 

You have 

• Degree level qualification, although qualifications to HNC level (minimum) with the relevant industry experience will be considered. 

• Experience of emergency planning, operational resilience, incident response, business continuity or a safety-critical engineering environment.
• Excellent knowledge of the electricity industry, including interfaces with the regulator, the Electricity System Operator, other Transmission Owners and Distribution Network Operators 

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, structured reports and procedures. Strong organisation and stakeholder-management skills, with confidence working across operational and senior leadership teams

• Ability to analyse and advise others on emergency planning, business continuity, incident management etc. within a real time control environment.
