Group Technical Accounting Lead

Salary: Up to £99,100 + car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Group Technical Accounting Lead to join our Group Technical Reporting team. This role is central to ensuring the integrity and compliance of SSE’s financial reporting, supporting the business in navigating complex accounting issues and contributing to the delivery of high-quality financial information. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a high performing team that comes with further career progression capability.  

You will

  • Provide expert advice on the application of IFRS to a wide range of transactions and scenarios across the SSE Group.
  • Support the preparation of the Group’s Annual and Interim Reports, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Research and interpret new and emerging accounting standards, assessing their impact on the Group and supporting implementation where required.
  • Collaborate with finance teams across the business to resolve technical accounting queries and promote best practice.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of training and guidance materials to enhance financial reporting capability across the Group.

You  should have

  • A professional accounting qualification (e.g. ICAS, ACA, ACCA) with a strong technical grounding in IFRS.
  • Proven post-qualification experience in a financial reporting or external audit role, ideally within a listed company or large corporate environment.
  • A track record of applying technical accounting knowledge to solve complex problems and communicate solutions clearly to non-specialists.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
