Design Engineer

Base Location: Thatcham, Reading or Portsmouth/Havant - Penner Road

You'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the above locations 

Salary: £64,085 - £76,581 + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent  | Full Time  | Flexible First options available - hybrid working

The role

You will

• Be responsible for the design assessment of projects including the evaluation in terms of value and risk.
• Manage and develop the engineering design from feasibility studies through to detailed design with framework partners to ensure projects are maintaining quality control of design outputs in line with SSEN standards,
• Ensure all works are carried out safely (on site) through the application of SSE safety family and five golden rules.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.

You have

• A degree in Electrical Design (preferred), or a Higher National Certificate (HNC) with substantial relevant experience.
• Solid engineering design expertise, with a strong understanding of design governance and CDM (Construction Design and Management) regulations.
• Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines and thrive in collaborative team environments.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience engaging successful with external and internal stakeholders including regulatory bodies

This role involves travel across various locations to support business needs. To enable you to fulfil these responsibilities, as a role requirement, the company will provide access to a vehicle for work-related travel.

The requirement will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, and if the company car policy criteria are met, there will be an opportunity to join the company car scheme. Provision of a company car or cash allowance does not form part of the contractual terms and conditions of employment for this role.

A valid driving licence is essential.
