The role

Are you passionate about building strong commercial relationships, navigating complex agreements, and helping shape the future of the energy market? As a Contracts Manager within SSE Energy Markets, you'll play a key role in managing and optimising a portfolio of high-value energy contracts worth over £1bn. Working collaboratively across the business and with external partners, you'll negotiate, implement and oversee a diverse range of energy trading, route-to-market and service agreements that support participation in UK and European energy markets. This is an exciting opportunity to influence strategic outcomes, deliver value for SSE and its customers, and contribute to a culture where safety, governance, compliance and responsible decision-making are at the heart of everything we do.

You will

- Lead the negotiation, drafting, execution and ongoing management of complex energy trading and route-to-market contracts, ensuring compliance with governance and safety standards.
- Build trusted relationships with internal stakeholders, customers and counterparties to support successful commercial outcomes and long-term partnerships.
- Pro-actively manage contractual approval processes, ensuring agreements are delivered efficiently and in line with business requirements.
- Provide clear reporting, recommendations and presentations to senior stakeholders, helping inform strategic and commercial decisions.
- Oversee the contract management system and support critical business processes, including contract performance monitoring and novations.

You have

- Experience working within a fast moving commercial, contractual or energy-related environment, supported by relevant qualifications or equivalent expertise.
- Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to understand contractual risk, value drivers and market dynamics.
- Confidence in negotiating, drafting and managing high-value agreements while balancing stakeholder needs and business objectives.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels.
- A detail-oriented and organised approach, with a commitment to governance, compliance, safety and continuous improvement. Motivated self-starter with the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team

About SSE

SSE’s purpose is to provide energy needed today while building a better world of energy for tomorrow. We do this by developing, building, operating and investing in electricity infrastructure and businesses needed in the energy transition. Our Transforming for Growth investment plan sees us investing £33bn in critical electricity infrastructure across the five years to 2030.

SSE Energy Markets secure the energy needed to power customers' lives, while creating value for SSE. Our Energy Markets trading teams buy the fuel needed to deliver cleaner energy and sell power generated in our wind farm, hydro and thermal assets back to the markets.
