Salary: £45,452 - £54,311 depending on skills and experience + car/cash allowance + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Construction Automation Technician to join our Customer Delivery team within our Wessex Power Distribution business.

This is a key role supporting the installation, maintenance, commissioning and fault resolution of remotely controlled switchgear and associated communication systems across the electrical distribution network up to 11kV. You will help ensure our network remains safe, reliable and responsive for customers.

You will:

  • Install, commission and maintain automation schemes across the distribution network.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on automation equipment from a range of manufacturers.
  • Install and maintain automation-related electrical equipment on the 11kV network, ensuring work is completed safely, on time and to a high standard.
  • Monitor and supervise contractors, ensuring compliance with safety standards and specifications.
  • Support the safe and reliable operation of the network by following SSE policies, procedures and industry standards.

You have:

  • Strong organisational and self-management skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise workloads effectively.
  • Knowledge of automation systems used on electrical distribution networks, with a willingness to continue learning and developing.
  • Operational authorisations including CAT 1, 2, 4, 5 and 7.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a wider team.
  • A proactive approach to training and development, including undertaking additional authorisations and qualifications such as CAT 4E, CAT 7 and automation installation training where required.
