Join SSEN Distribution’s Distribution System Operations (DSO) team and help shape the future of energy.
We’re looking for a System Planning Engineer who’s passionate about delivering a smarter, fairer, and more sustainable electricity network. This is your opportunity to play a key role in enabling the transition to net zero by planning and developing innovative solutions across our distribution network from low voltage up to 132kV.
You will
Conduct power system studies and network modelling to assess capacity, performance, and future needs.
Develop investment plans and technical documentation outlining reinforcement strategies using both traditional and flexible solutions.
Collaborate with design and delivery teams to ensure efficient, economic, and future-ready network development.
Translate insights from innovation projects into actionable planning strategies.
Speak directly with customers and other external stakeholders to understand their current and future energy needs, ensuring our plans reflect real-world demand
Work closely with other DSO departments relating to forecasting and flexibility on the network.
You have
Minimum HNC educational qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with relevant industry experience, or engineering degree working towards Chartered Engineer.
Fundamental knowledge of planning, design, operation, protection and control of electricity networks, and the interface with Transmission.
Familiarity with regulatory and engineering standards (e.g. ENA recommendations P2, P28, G99, G5, Distribution Code).
Experience using power system analysis software; PowerFactory and Python are advantageous.
An interest and knowledge of data science, machine learning, AI, statistical analysis will also be an advantage
