Salary: £63,000 - £94,400 + car/allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

The role

As part of SSEN Transmissions Offshore Portfolio of works, we have an opportunity for a Substation Engineering Manager to join our newly formed Offshore HVAC (High Voltage Alternate Current) Project Engineering team to help drive forward our Island and Offshore projects and successfully deliver a network for Net Zero. Our Island and Offshore projects facilitate the connection to our HVDC systems and include state-of the-art AC grid control and stabilisation technology.

 You will

- Ensure appropriate senior engineering support is in place for delivery of Engineering scope (Large Capital Projects Gate 0 to Gate 5) for assigned project / package (typical value £100M - £1000M); ensuring that Engineering risks in the Development stage are identified and understood, and appropriate measures are put in place to deal with issues and minimise risk to project and programme.

- Have general co-ordination responsibilities for substation development, standardisation and substation project innovation, including chairing meetings with Contractors and other project stakeholders, organising design reviews and other technical sessions such as HAZID/HAZOP/HAZCON and Design Authority Reviews.

- Ensure that project technical requirements align with regional strategy and standardised design and be the point of contact for project technical issues. Responsible for early identification of technology elements requiring Technical Authority (TA) approval, and preparing the plan for TA approval, in conjunction with the technical team.

- Promote and manage safety within project portfolio, including Safety in Design, implementation of CDM procedures and Principal Designer (PD) practice, with Project Manager.

- Be responsible for Design Management Plans, Engineering Works Information, scheduling of Design Reviews and ensuring competent project technical leadership whilst assuming direct line management of senior substation engineers and responsibility for the co-ordination of all substation engineering activities in the project development phase.

You have

- A degree in an appropriate engineering discipline (preferably Electrical and CEng) coupled with significant experience in substation design and delivery.

- Strong technical knowledge of the Transmission network, with technical understanding of all elements, and detailed technical understanding of facilitating functions and an understanding of legal and regulatory obligations for Transmission.

- In depth technical knowledge of relevant legislation and the implications for Transmission network management for both Assets and Projects, including CDM and ESQCR.

- Built strong relationships and understanding of consultants and external industry experts and the ability to communicate and challenge complex technical issues and recommendations in a clear and concise manner to facilitate decision making by senior management.
