The roles

SSEN Transmission is recruiting for both Site Construction Manager and Site Supervisor opportunities to support the delivery of OHL and Substation Projects in and around Highland, Inverness, Moray, Aberdeenshire and Angus. These form a critical part of our Pathway to 2030 programme and are of the largest electricity transmission infrastructure projects in the UK.

Whether you're an experienced construction manager or an established site supervisor looking to take the next step in your career, you'll play a key role in ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards of quality while helping build the network needed to support Scotland's net zero ambitions.

Working across major overhead line, substation and associated infrastructure works, you'll act as a key representative of SSEN Transmission on site, working closely with contractors and project teams to oversee delivery, monitor progress and ensure compliance with project requirements.

These are site-based roles and, during the construction phase, you'll be expected to be onsite five days per week across locations along the Beauly to Peterhead or Tealing to Kintore routes.

You Will

  • Act as SSEN Transmission's representative on site, overseeing contractor activities and ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with project requirements.
  • Monitor construction progress, quality, compliance and contractor performance, ensuring activities are completed in accordance with project specifications, programme milestones and industry standards.
  • Ensure all activities comply with statutory requirements, planning consents, environmental obligations, CDM Regulations, health and safety standards, contractual obligations and quality requirements.
  • Support project delivery through effective site management, including monitoring completed works, maintaining accurate records, contributing to project controls and tracking performance against agreed plans.
  • Build strong working relationships with contractors, project teams, operational stakeholders and local communities, promoting a positive and collaborative safety culture throughout project delivery.

You Have

  • Experience supervising, coordinating or managing construction activities on utility, energy, infrastructure, civil engineering, electrical transmission or other major engineering projects.
  • Strong engineering and construction knowledge, including a sound understanding of health and safety legislation and Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM).
  • Experience monitoring contractor performance, quality assurance processes and delivery against project plans, specifications and project requirements.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships and challenge constructively where required.
  • Good IT skills and proven leadership capability, with the ability to manage competing priorities, maintain accurate project records and work effectively in demanding site environments.

Please note, a full current driving licence is essential due to the requirement to travel to and be on site.

About SSE

SSE’s purpose is to be restless every day until we make electricity clean, affordable and available for all.

We do this by developing, building, operating and investing in electricity infrastructure and businesses needed in the energy transition. This includes electricity transmission and distribution networks, onshore and offshore wind farms, hydro-electric power and flexible thermal generation. We also provide products and services for businesses and other customers.

Our investment plan will see SSE invest £33bn in critical electricity infrastructure to 2030.

SSEN Transmission own and operate the electricity transmission network across the north of Scotland. We transport electricity from where it is generated to where it is needed, ensuring a safe and reliable electricity supply for the communities we serve. But that's not all – we're upgrading the grid to deliver cleaner, homegrown power for the future and building the infrastructure needed for a cleaner electricity system to create secure power for generations to come.
