Salary: £42,600 – £64,000 + car/car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern:  Permanent | Full Time | Site Based Role

The Role

The Site Construction Manager will be crucial in managing the project, involving the construction of both new substations and overhead line routes, thereby ensuring strict adherence to health, safety, environmental and quality standards. The role is initially based in the north of Scotland, with a site office in Connagill, where you will primarily be based during the project. You’ll be a trusted representative of SSEN Transmission on-site, building strong relationships and fostering a collaborative culture. The project is a key part of our commitment to delivering a Network for Net Zero.

You Will

  • Represent SSEN Transmission on-site as a key point of contact, supporting the construction and wiring of new transmission overhead line towers, access routes, and civil works.
  • Ensure the project meets all statutory, legal, health and safety, CDM, quality, and stakeholder requirements.
  • Work closely with contractors and SSEN teams to deliver the programme safely and efficiently, while nurturing a positive and inclusive site culture.
  • Provide clear and consistent reporting to the Project Manager, ensuring contractors deliver detailed weekly updates on safety, quality, and testing.
  • Build strong relationships with contractors, suppliers, and the local community, acting as a visible leader and champion for safety and collaboration.

You Have

  • Solid engineering or construction knowledge with a strong understanding of safety requirements, including the application of CDM 2015 Regulations.
  • Relevant qualifications in engineering and/or construction management, with experience overseeing complex works in construction, utilities or electrical installation. CSCS Supervisor/Manager and SSSTS/SMSTS (or equivalents) are preferred.
  • On‑site experience in construction or commissioning of transmission overhead lines or similar large infrastructure projects, with good understanding of NEC contracts and ideally previous NEC Supervisor experience. Strong inspection skills across health, safety and quality.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, confident representing the project internally and externally. Proficient in Microsoft Office, with desirable experience using systems such as ACC/BIM.
  • A confident, inclusive leadership style with effective conflict‑resolution skills, able to challenge appropriately, oversee site activities professionally, and track progress against plans while maintaining accurate documentation (e.g., reports, diaries).

A full driving licence and willingness to be site-based five days a week during the construction phase.
