Salary: £50,100 - £75,100 + performance-related bonus and a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

The SIEM Engineering Lead is responsible for leading the team tasked with maintaining the SSE Security Information & Event Monitoring (SIEM) platform. This includes onboarding log sources, developing Analytic Rules, creating automation for triage and remediation, and integrating with other SSE platforms, where appropriate. The role holder will manage the team’s operation, delivery, compliance and performance against any relevant requirements, targets and/or SLAs. They will also strive for continual improvements in quality and performance whilst ensuring the safety and well-being of the team and other colleagues.  They are also responsible for monitoring the baseline security controls throughout SSE Group and reporting on exceptions. They may be involved in providing support on baseline security controls in IT projects.

You will

  • Manage and coordinate operational components of incident management, including detection, response, reporting, and resolution of security incidents related to the SIEM platform.
  • Monitor, review, and interpret system logs, audit trails, and security reports to detect unusual activity, ensure policy compliance, and produce management reports.
  • Oversee onboarding of systems based on risk profile, support security investigations and compliance reviews, and provide guidance on legal and regulatory compliance efforts.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain security processes, procedures, technical documentation, and disaster recovery plans, ensuring business continuity and effective testing.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to classify data, define security standards, maintain knowledgebases, and facilitate information sharing on risk and vulnerability management.

You have

  • Proven IT and security work experience, with broad exposure to infrastructure, networks, and multi-platform environments, and familiarity with frameworks such as ISO 17799/27001, ITIL, and NIST.
  • Solid knowledge and experience in the energy sector and utilities, with an understanding of risks and threats specific to the UK energy sector, smart metering, network, consumer technologies, and customer data.
  • Demonstrable expertise in information and IT security, including its importance to business operations.
  • Comprehensive understanding of security issues, techniques, and implications across all computer platforms.
  • Strong grasp of information risk concepts and principles, enabling effective alignment of security controls with business needs.
