Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office – Inverness, Perth or Aberdeen

Salary: £59,800 - £89,800 + car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances, and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available. On site presence required minimum 2/3 days a week on Skye.

The role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Project Manager to join the Skye 132kV Reinforcement team in the delivery of a Substation on Skye as we prepare for the Delivery phase during 2026 - 2030. This is a unique opportunity to lead the delivery of a major transmission infrastructure project that will strengthen the network in the north of Scotland and support the transition to a cleaner energy system. There is continuity of work after 2030 on our evolving pipeline of work over the next 10-15 years.

You will

  • Lead the SSE project team and collaborate closely with multiple external contractors, creating a high-performing and collaborative environment to ensure project excellence and deliver on our commitments.
  • Manage the execution of the Skye Reinforcement Project, ensuring safe delivery to programme, budget, and required quality standards.
  • Apply and uphold our Safety Management Systems, industry best practices, and the SSE Large Capital Projects (LCP) Governance processes.
  • Champion and role-model SSE's safety culture, leadership values and commitment to inclusive and collaborative working.
  • Ensure the project is delivered in alignment with the SHE Transmission RIIO‑T2 Business Plan and supports our five clear strategic goals, while building and maintaining effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.

You have

  • A strong engineering, construction or major infrastructure delivery background, with experience leading complex projects and teams. You will ideally have experience in delivering civils,  large-scale earthworks, or transmission overhead lines and substations. You bring a deep understanding of safety and CDM regulations and have a proven track record of delivering major projects.
  • Experience in project reporting and management, along with a solid understanding of administering NEC3 contracts.
  • Knowledge of developing and managing integrated project programmes and project management governance systems. Experience with tendering processes and managing suppliers, including multi-disciplinary contracts.
  • The ability to accurately forecast, monitor, and control project costs.
  • Experience managing a broad range of stakeholders and balancing competing priorities across large, complex infrastructure projects.

Due to the location of our projects, there is a need to have a valid driver's license.

About SSE

SSE’s purpose is to be restless every day until we make electricity clean, affordable and available for all.

We do this by developing, building, operating and investing in electricity infrastructure and businesses needed in the energy transition. This includes electricity transmission and distribution networks, onshore and offshore wind farms, hydro-electric power and flexible thermal generation. We also provide products and services for businesses and other customers.

Our investment plan will see SSE invest £33bn in critical electricity infrastructure to 2030.

SSEN Transmission own and operate the electricity transmission network across the north of Scotland. We transport electricity from where it is generated to where it is needed, ensuring a safe and reliable electricity supply for the communities we serve. But that's not all – we're upgrading the grid to deliver cleaner, homegrown power for the future and building the infrastructure needed for a cleaner electricity system to create secure power for generations to come.
