Base Location: Perth, Glasgow, Reading, Portsmouth – other locations can be considered
Salary: £47,600 - £71,600 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role
As a Senior Policy Engineer, you will be the senior subject matter expert in SSEN Distribution network, engaging deeply with all aspects of our distribution network, from LV to 132kV and providing resilience across the Asset Policy team.
This pivotal role extends from developing specifications and ensuring compliance with the latest standards to managing substantial supply contracts and introducing new equipment. Your technical expertise will empower our team, drive innovation, and uphold our commitment to safety and efficiency.
This role will also provide technical leadership to the Inspection and Maintenance Asset Policy Teams and will act as delegate to the overall team manager.
You will
- Oversee and Manage Framework Contracts: Lead contracts valued over £100m, ensuring the strategic sourcing of equipment and materials that support network excellence.
- Provide Technical Leadership in Distribution Asset Policy: Act as the subject expert in operational policy, developing and standardising specifications to uphold safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
- Provide Innovation in Equipment Design & Specification: Lead the design, specification, and standardisation of equipment, incorporating new technologies to optimise lifecycle costs and improve network performance.
- Champion Safety & Compliance: Ensure full compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, driving a culture of health and safety excellence across all teams.
- Lead Cross-Team Initiatives: Provide leadership to the Inspection and Maintenance Asset Policy Teams and serve as a technical delegate to senior management, driving the implementation of industry-leading solutions.
We are looking for a highly skilled individual who has experience in distribution networks, operational policy and can provide resilience across the team.
You have
- Extensive expertise in operational policy, with a solid understanding of both international and British Standards.
- Proven leadership and experience in managing substantial supply contracts and engineering teams.
- A track record of introducing innovative solutions and managing significant change within complex projects.
- A passion for driving safety standards and improving the performance and reliability of distribution networks.
