Salary: £66,100 - £99,100 + car/car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

The role of the Senior Market Economics Manager is responsible for leading the energy market economic analysis and insight central to the Market Design teams role in advocating, advising, interpreting, and managing SSE’s response to GB electricity market design matters. This role involves identifying, generating and assessing market design issues, providing internal and external thought leadership regarding market, economic and commercial insight to influence the strategic direction of the GB energy market and SSE’s Energy Businesses.

You will

  • Influence industry change through insight regarding economic principles and evidence-based representation of priorities including commercial interests of SSE’s Energy Businesses. This includes identifying, proposing and advocating for changes to market design and associated policy matters, formulation and ownership of consultation responses, and representation at industry forums.
  • Work closely with stakeholders (Ofgem, Government departments, trade associations etc) to support change, guide and challenge 3rd party analysis, as well as using analysis to understand, inform and provide evidence for advocacy positions regarding market and policy matters.
  • Communicate changes, or key developments in GB market design to all levels of SSE that will impact on the delivery of BU activities and future strategy, disseminating complex information and advising on key risks and opportunities.
  • Play an important role in driving SSE’s commercial success across each of the Energy Businesses, providing market economic insight that will help shape and influence strategic decisions to maximise commercial value.

You have

  • Understanding and experience of applying market economic principles and competition theory, specifically relating to energy markets
  • Experience of energy policy and market design matters in complex wholesale, trading, commodity markets.
  • Experience and understanding of the key policy and market design developments in GB electricity markets, and influences that come from international jurisdictions.
  • Ability to interpret and support complex policy and market design matters and produce and draft high quality internal papers and external responses (e.g., consultations)
  • Strategic awareness of the interactions between electricity market frameworks, policy, and regulatory requirements and broader Energy Business objectives and strategy.
