The role

The Project Safety Manager plays a key role in the Distribution Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) team, offering expert, practical safety guidance and support to both internal teams and contract partners across the Distribution business.

You will

  • Provide assurance to the Distribution business that our contract partners are undertaking works in-line with requirements of contracts and legislation in relation to SHE.
  • Ensure that all work activities, from development through execution, are conducted safely, effectively managing and reducing risk to prevent incidents.
  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of the safety components within the Distribution SHE Management System.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders including regulatory authorities, industry bodies, designers/planners, contractor management teams and site operational teams.
  • Conduct or support investigations into incidents, utilising a range of tools and techniques to identify root causes and prevent recurrence along with providing technical support in managing serious incidents.
  • Become a trusted partner by promoting a psychologically safe workplace that enables people to work safely and confidently.

You have

  • Experience in high-risk operational activities (overhead, underground and substation) on distribution networks.
  • A recognised qualification in occupational safety (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma) or a related discipline or possess equivalent proven knowledge and experience. Membership of IOSH (or an equivalent professional organisation) with a commitment to ongoing professional development is essential.
  • A strong understanding of design, planning, construction, maintenance, and operational field practices within the electrical distribution industry, along with sound knowledge of relevant UK safety legislation affecting the sector — including CDM Regulations, working at height, asbestos, and driving safety.
  • A structured approach with the ability to assess complex technical issues, evaluate risks, and implement effective solutions. Along with proven experience in preparing clear, concise, and technically accurate documentation.

As you will be travelling between sites and meeting stakeholders, it's an essential requirement that you have a full and current driving licence.
