The role
As a Project Manager within the SSEN Transmission (SSENT) Offshore team, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of large-scale offshore transmission projects across the north of Scotland. This role is within the Western Isles HVDC Link Project which will provide a new subsea cable connecting renewable power and support the country's drive to a secure and net zero energy future.
Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, the Project Manager will be responsible for the safe, timely and cost-effective delivery of the Civil Engineering package for offshore electrical infrastructure, with a primary focus on underground cabling and associated enabling works. This includes the end-to-end management of design development, consents and stakeholder interfaces, procurement, construction delivery, testing/commissioning support, and close-out/hand-over in line with SSEN Offshore Delivery governance, HSE expectations, and quality standards. The role coordinates activities across internal disciplines (engineering, consents, safety, health and wellbeing, commercial, programme controls, land and stakeholder teams) and external partners (principal contractors, cable installers, utility providers, local authorities and landowners).
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a growing portfolio of complex infrastructure projects at a critical stage of delivery.
You will:
- Lead the end‑to‑end delivery of the underground cable civil engineering package, ensuring clear scope definition, effective interface management and successful delivery of all associated works.
- Champion a strong safety and environmental culture, ensuring all activities are planned and delivered in full compliance with CDM duties, SSEN standards, legislative requirements and project controls.
- Develop and maintain robust package programmes aligned to the integrated project plan, with accountability for budget control, forecasting, change management and value for money.
- Lead contractor and supplier performance from procurement through to close‑out, coordinating design development and constructability reviews to optimise safety, quality and efficiency.
- Manage consents and stakeholder interfaces, proactively control package risks and opportunities, and foster strong collaboration across project teams to drive continuous improvement and lessons learned.
You have
- Demonstrable experience delivering civil engineering works, ideally within linear infrastructure or HV/EHV cable projects, with an understanding of end‑to‑end project delivery requirements.
- Good knowledge of underground cable route civil construction methods and interfaces, including trenching, ducting, joint bays, HDD/boring, reinstatement and coordination with cable installation and testing activities.
- Working knowledge of UK health, safety and environmental requirements, including duties under the CDM Regulations, with a commitment to safe systems of work.
- Experience working with NEC3 (or similar) contractual arrangements, including change control, commercial governance and cost management.
- Strong capability in programme planning, risk management and performance reporting, with experience coordinating consents, permits and third‑party stakeholders and driving actions from cost and schedule information.
