The role

Our Development Project Managers play a central role in shaping SSEN Transmission’s largest and most complex infrastructure projects. From new substations to major overhead line and cable developments, you will oversee projects ranging in value from £10 million to £1 billion, guiding them through the crucial early stages where scope, feasibility and design are defined.

This is a key position that brings together technical, commercial and stakeholder elements, ensuring that each project is structured for successful delivery and aligned with our long term network strategy.

You will

  • Identify and form an appropriate team to execute each project which you will lead and manage to deliver key deliverables up to the construction phase. These will include assessing project feasibility, development of options and initial designs, submission of Planning Applications and delivery of key documentation.
  • Lead your team in assessing project feasibility, development of overhead line/underground cable routes and onshore substation site selection, selection of appropriate technologies to meet project requirements, coordination of key surveys and studies to inform designs, coordinating initial design works, acquisition of land rights and wayleaves, submission of Planning Applications, coordinating key submissions to the Regulator and delivery of key project Gate documentation.
  • Manage project programmes, costs, resource schedules and relevant plans in line with project governance requirements.
  • Build and maintain productive and enduring relationships with contractors, stakeholders and communities to support the sustainable delivery of the projects that you are responsible for.
  • Maintain safety, health and environmental performance and standards.

You have

  • Experience of project development through the optioneering and initial design phases, with an ability to develop the optimum project solution, deliver to timescales and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • An ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams to deliver multiple project outputs to inform key processes such as planning applications, tenders and design works.
  • Experience of developing, managing and reporting on significant project budgets (£10M and above) and an understanding of the electrical network within the Transmission business would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other key relevant health, safety and environmental legislation.
  • Experience of the NEC3 suite of contracts, with a focus on the Engineering and Construction and Professional Services contracts.
