What is the Role?
The role of a Lead Technology specialist is to provide technical consultation, guidance and support in ensuring the ongoing maintenance, and developed service improvements to, our core applications. Apply your knowledge to the development of technical solutions to satisfy business requirements and diagnosis and resolution of incidents, problems.
Leads in the definition of technical deployment standards and patterns, and collaborates with product leadership and Architecture roles to deliver business outcomes in agile, DevOps environment as part of a team. Continuously improve the way software is delivered within the organisation.
Key Accountabilities
- You’ll be responsible for the delivery of solution designs in terms of digital and AI , covering a wider range of systems and applications within the Customer Solutions Landscape, aligning to Architecture provided Guardrails and IT Strategy.
- Establish strong relationships with stakeholders by inspiring confidence in the delivery of a portfolio of business-focussed projects and initiatives and a mix of large Industry – driven Programmes.
- You’ll follow SSE’s project delivery and architecture frameworks and you’ll be comfortable with both waterfall and agile delivery methods. You’ll be very familiar with Cloud Platform Services, based solutions and with Cloud best practices, with a strong preference for Azure and AWS.
- You will be leading effective conversations with Solution Architects, Cloud and infrastructure architects, Security architects and engineering. You’ll show ability to quickly address problems at the right level, from high level application architecture to detailed integration patterns.
- A key part of the role will be to ensure we make progress on our key issues, while keeping solutions aligned to organisation and industry standards and with other programmes/projects, for which a seamless collaboration with your team and with other Architects across SSE is fundamental
What Do I Need?
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Proven expertise in designing and delivering solutions using cloud-native architectures including a deep understanding of serverless, containers, and relevant cloud services. As well as proficiency in various architectural patterns (e.g., microservices, event-driven), integration design patterns, and API architecture (REST, GraphQL).
- Demonstrable experience in designing and implementing AI/ML solutions, including knowledge of common ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch), AI based cloud services in Azure and AWS, data science platforms, and MLOps tools.
- Familiarity with various AI/ML techniques (e.g., supervised, unsupervised, reinforcement learning), natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, and generative AI models.
- Solid understanding of different architecture domains (application, data, infrastructure, integration, security).
- Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and agile delivery methodologies.
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert) are highly desirable. Energy Industry experience is preferred.
