The role
As a Lead Data Engineer at ECS, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering our data strategy. You will lead the design, development, and optimisation of scalable data solutions that support our business objectives particularly in enhancing customer experience through advanced analytics and cloud technologies. You will also be actively involved in delivering data migration initiatives.
You will
Lead large, technically focused teams in delivering enterprise-grade data solutions, with a strong emphasis on initiatives across Business Energy and Airtricity within SSE.
Provide line management and mentorship to data engineers, fostering a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
Shape and drive the long-term data strategy, applying strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills to complex challenges.
Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership, translating complex concepts into clear, actionable insights.
Manage stakeholders confidently and ensure effective knowledge transfer across teams.
Champion innovation, particularly in AI and automation, while contributing positively to team dynamics and embracing continuous learning.
You have
A degree in Computer Science or a related field, with professional certifications such as Microsoft Certified Azure Data Engineer considered a strong advantage.
Proven experience leading and mentoring data engineering teams in a hands-on capacity. Experience in data management, migration, and data quality initiatives.
Deep technical expertise in building and operating analytics solutions using Azure technologies, including Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Azure Storage (Data Lake / Delta Lake), Azure SQL Database, and Azure SQL Data Warehouse (Dedicated SQL Pool). Familiarity with Synapse and ETL tools is essential.
Proficiency in Python/PySpark, Pandas, NumPy, and T-SQL, with strong report-building skills using Power BI.
A track record of designing data models, developing robust ETL pipelines, engineering scalable solutions, conducting code reviews, and producing high-quality documentation.
Solid understanding of Agile principles and practical experience with Scrum. Skilled in Azure DevOps, including best practices for source control, CI/CD, and change management.
