Salary: SS08 £57,150 - £68,295 depending on skills and experience + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

SSE Renewables Hydro operate the largest fleet of hydro-electric power assets across eight hydro schemes in Scotland. Our portfolio totals 1,459MW of installed capacity, which includes pumped storage and flexible hydro. Our assets consist of some of the most iconic power station sites constructed, which brought hydro-electric power to the Scottish Glens 80 years ago.

As a Hydro Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) Maintenance Engineer you’ll be responsible for the availability and maintenance of the hydro stations across the Breadalbane section, playing a key role in ensuring the power stations are reliable and available to operate as required.

Some of your main accountabilities will include;

  • Maintaining, testing and resolving defects on a wide range of plant, apparatus, equipment and systems associated with hydroelectric operations.
  • Completing any required maintenance reports and logs on time and in line with company quality requirements.
  • Ensuring the correct periodicity of planned maintenance defined is completed on time, based on engineering 1st principles, and all work activities are well thought out, with safety at the forefront of all work methodology.
  • Providing technical support to, and work in collaboration with, other stakeholders including first responders, project teams and control room staff to achieve the Hydro business objectives.
  • Identifying, managing and implementing plant reliability and upgrade projects.
  • Attaining and maintaining a high-level Safe Systems of Work authorisation.

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have;

  • An HND level qualification in a relevant engineering subject (Mechanical, Electrical) with strong knowledge of maintenance and reliability. Other qualifications will be considered depending on knowledge or work experience in an operational and maintenance environment, preferably within the hydropower generation industry.
  • An excellent aptitude for fault-finding and problem-solving, backed up with written analysis to monitor failures.
  • A solid understanding of hydroelectric machinery and its interdependent systems. Prior experience is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Safe Systems of Work, and a commitment to promoting safety culture by modelling best practices. Also, a thorough understanding of the importance and meaning of an effective Safe System of Work, the health and safety regulations to attain and maintain a high-level Safe System of Work authorisation.
  • A full and valid UK driving license.

Due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate will need to reside, or be willing to re-locate, within a 30-mile radius of the base location.
