The role

The Head of Control GB is responsible for our 2 Distribution Control centres which operate 24/7 365 days a year ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the entire Distribution system across both licence areas powering 3.9 million UK homes and businesses.

You will

  • Have 24/7 accountability for all aspects of operating the network within the licence areas, including responding to emergency events such as a complete failure of the electricity system to severe weather event planning, ensuring that all team members are similarly available
  • Lead, manage and develop a team of highly skilled, specialist engineers and leaders ensuring all aspects of compliance with statutory, safety, regulatory and licence requirements are met, together with delivery of the regulatory price control plan
  • Develop the network on a national level to deliver regulatory outputs, maximise incentives and ensure the primary network supporting our customers and net zero ambitions
  • Ensuring the reliability, resilience and ongoing development on the network infrastructure
  • Manage the interface with National Grid Electricity System Operator (NG ESO), National Electricity Transmission owner (NG TO) SHE Transmission, Distribution Network Operators over 3000 connected users of the Distribution system such as generators and large demand customers

You have

  • Experience in power engineering with expert knowledge in power system operation – especially Safety from the System and Power System analysis.
  • Management experience and delivery of successful operations within a Control Room Environment
  • Have a proven track record of leading, coaching and motivating teams
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and engagement skills, with the proven ability to influence internal and external stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes
  • Be resilient, tenacious and committed to delivering positive results with proven ability to make effective decisions under pressure
