About the Role

Base Location: Glasgow, Reading, Perth or Havant

Salary: £47,600 - £71,600 + performance related bonus and a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced data professional to undertake a leading technical role responsible for the ongoing development of SSE Group data management tools including data catalogue, data marketplace and data quality solutions which form a key component of our data management service offering.

Working within a group-wide Data Management Centre of Excellence (DM CoE), you will act as a subject matter expert (SME), collaborating with other data professionals across SSE to promote data best practices and meet robust standards. Your responsibilities will include:

- Acting as technical metadata and data catalogue SME leading the ongoing improvement of data management tooling and the development of data catalogue standards.

- Delivery of Group data management tooling as a service, refining the operating model and supporting processes to ensure smooth delivery and interoperability with other services.

- Supporting business units and corporate functions with the connection of data sources, metadata sources and data quality reports to the catalogue, and work with technical architects and cyber security analysts to provide consultancy on the suitability of solutions.

- Supporting colleagues in the DM CoE in evangelising a healthy data culture, focusing on effective and sustainable data management to support business change and digital transformation.

- Producing and maintaining relevant education materials for data stewards and data managers across the SSE group with a focus on the effective use of group data management tools.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Excellent functional skills in the operation and maintenance of a recognised data catalogue tool or suite of tools such as those produced by Informatica (preferred), Collibra or Alation.

- A proven track record of undertaking a leading technical role providing data management services to an enterprise organisation.

- Excellent understanding of data lineage, data modelling (with a focus on metamodels) and typical enterprise data sources such as relational databases.

- A proven track record of the promotion of data management tools to grow adoption within a business.

- Demonstrable experience of leading the creation and maintenance of ongoing high-quality reporting, ideally with a focus on reporting data catalogue usage and the quality of metadata.
