Environmental Manager - Circularity and Resource Efficiency

Base Location: Glasgow, Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen and/or Reading

Salary: £50100- £75100 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

Reporting to the Group Environment Manager, the role will support the SSE Group in their endeavours to keep people, the environment and assets safe.

The role will support the development and delivery of the SSE Environment Strategy, with particular focus on leading activities on the strategy’s Responsible Consumption and Production pillar, working with all Business Units and key internal and external stakeholders.

You will

Have strong technical experience in circularity and waste management, with associated experience in leading and embedding strategies, a background in environmental management and sustainability, as well as excellent stakeholder management and communication skills to engage, create momentum and value across an organisation.

You will lead SSE’s circularity and waste reduction strategies, support SSE in navigating the intricacies of legislation, enhance our corporate performance, deliver efficiency and inspire teams throughout the organisation to think creatively and engage actively to deliver our goals at pace.

You will support delivery across all Business Units, will develop and embed a Circularity Roadmap to drive strategy and performance, support development of SSE Policies, and deliver best practice within Group, Business Units, and with key internal and external stakeholders.

Play a critical part within Corporate SHE Team and will be required to work across the UK and Ireland, and other areas, in developing the SSE approach at pace and to mitigate risk.

Demonstrate a strong commitment to enhancing and evidencing performance at a strategic level.

You have

  • Expertise in circularity and waste management with a proven track record in creating and embedding strategy and delivering positive change and innovation in complex multi-disciplinary organisations.
  • Strong knowledge of circular economy principles, sustainable procurement, waste management, environmental management and risk management, as well as the associated regulatory and corporate requirements.
  • Proven experience in delivering and communicating practical solutions to environmental and sustainability challenges.
  • Proven experience in engaging and influencing stakeholders across complex multi-disciplinary organisations.
  • Proficiency in interpreting and communicating complex data, and problem-solving.
  • A Degree, or Master’s Degree, in environmental, sustainability, or related subject.
  • Professional Membership of ISEP or equivalent.
