Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based out of one of our Scottish locations – Glasgow, Perth, Inverness, or Aberdeen.

Salary: £50,100 - £75,100 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

As part of SSEN Transmission Pathway to 2030 programme of works, we’re recruiting a Control and Protection Engineer to join our Offshore Project Engineering team to help drive forward our HVDC projects.  We're looking for someone who can bring big ideas, new skills and innovative thinking to help us grow our teams to successfully deliver a network for Net Zero.

You will

  • Provide HVDC and AC Substation protection and control technical support on projects for the resolution of technical issues.
  • Contribute to the definition and verification of the basis of project design and scope, as well as confirming the design during construction, installation and commissioning.
  • Review third party contractor/consultant detailed designs, witness FAT’s and provide support for field teams to ensure quality of installations.  You’ll also evaluate tenders and manage specialist obtained services from consultants.
  • Work with Engineers within their specialist remit, using your technical ability to support other HVDC and AC projects through review of key issues. 
  • Promote and manage safety within your assigned projects through the implementation of CDM procedures and practices, ensuring the project engineering is compliant with company, HSE and industry regulations.

You have

  • A BEng/BSc (or higher) in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Proven technical ability from key roles in AC or HVDC protection and control, including OEM experience.
  • Demonstrable technical skills in AC or HVDC protection and control specification and scheme design.  Knowledge in HVDC commissioning and engineering is considered a plus but not essential.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Develop and mentor junior engineers to build technical excellence across the team and business.
