Construction Projects Director

Base Location: Flexible UK, Spain or Italy, ideally you will be based from Glasgow, Reading, London, Madrid, Bilbao or Rome with ability to travel to SSER sites as and when required by projects.

The role

This is a senior leadership role responsible for delivering a portfolio of large-scale renewable energy construction projects across Spain and Italy in Southern Europe, primarily onshore wind with exposure to additional technologies solar, and battery storage.

You will lead multidisciplinary, international teams to safely deliver projects from final investment decision through commissioning and to handover, ensuring strong commercial performance while supporting the continued growth of SSE Renewables across key European markets.

You will

• Lead the successful delivery of a portfolio of renewable energy construction projects, ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental performance, and delivering projects on time and within budget
• Inspire, manage, and develop a team of project leaders, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture across multiple sites, countries, and technologies
• Take full ownership of project financial performance, proactively managing budgets, contracts, and risk to protect and enhance project value
• Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with contractors, partners, and key stakeholders, navigating complex regulatory and cultural environments to maintain delivery momentum
• Drive continuous improvement & safety across construction activities, promoting innovation, efficiency, and the sharing of best practices across projects and regions

You have

• Proven experience delivering large-scale infrastructure or renewable energy projects in a senior leadership role within Spain, Italy or Southern Europe
• Strong commercial and financial acumen, with demonstrable experience managing complex budgets, contracts, and project risk
• A track record of leading and developing high-performing teams within complex, multi-project and multicultural environments
• Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish or Italian is essential, with the ability to influence and engage senior internal and external stakeholders
• A degree in engineering, construction, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience), ideally supported by relevant professional accreditation
