SSE has big ambitions to be a leading energy company in a low carbon world. Following our commitment to invest £20.5 billion in low carbon projects to 2027, we have significant growth plans and are well on our way to achieving our ambition to build a world that's more sustainable and inclusive for you, your family, the community you live in and for generations to come.

Join us on our journey to net zero and help us power change.

About the Role

Base Location: London, Glasgow, Perth preferred. We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception.

Salary: £40,600 - £50,000 (depending on skills and experience) + performance related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible Working options available

We're seeking a dynamic Communications Manager to join our team at SSE Thermal and Energy Markets. You'll play a key role in conveying our journey towards a net zero future, crafting compelling stories about our low-carbon projects and engaging with diverse audiences.

Reporting to the Head of Communications, you'll drive both internal and external communication efforts, utilising your news sense to identify impactful narratives. Your responsibilities will include media relations, issues management, and enhancing our digital footprint, particularly on LinkedIn.

We need someone adept at simplifying complex energy topics into accessible messaging, including crafting opinion pieces for national and trade press, and helping our internal audiences understand the same issues and their importance to delivery of net zero. You'll collaborate with leaders across the organisation, preparing them for interviews and industry events, ensuring our message resonates effectively.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

- Planning, delivering and managing internal and external communications for SSE Thermal and Energy Markets, creating compelling content (including press releases, staff newsletters, social media posts, presentations and opinion pieces) that resonate with our different audiences.

- Working with our in-house design and digital teams to develop additional collateral (including videos and infographics) for use on our various communications channels and at events and conferences.

- Proactively sourcing media opportunities that help to build, promote and enhance the profile of the business while handling reactive media enquiries as and when required.

- Working with wider Thermal Corporate Affairs and SSE Group colleagues to leverage opportunities and to show the important role Thermal plays in keeping the lights on and driving the net zero transition.

- Managing and leveraging our presence at a series of events and conferences, from major industry events to internal SSE events.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Ability to develop and implement compelling multi-channel communication strategies for both internal and external audiences and the ability to deliver under tight timescales.

- Significant experience in media communications, an eye for a story and an instinct for what makes strong content for our varied audiences.

- A passion for internal communications with a desire to get under the skin of the business and find new ways of communicating with colleagues both within Thermal and across the wider SSE Group.

- Strong communication (oral and written) skills and an ability to advise at senior executive level, clear attention to detail and an ability to build effective working relationships at all organisational levels.

- Ability to grasp complex information and understand how and when to use it in SSE Thermal interests. A working knowledge of the energy sector and/or similar complex industry would be preferred.
