The role

Join SSE Transmission at a pivotal moment in its digital transformation journey.

We're offering an exciting opportunity to shape a greenfield IT Procurement role, supporting the Senior Category Manager in delivering a forward-thinking strategy for our rapidly growing Transmission business. As we separate from SSE Networks, you'll play a key role in enabling our digital ambitions—driving data-led decisions, operational efficiency, and progress toward a net zero future.

You will

  • Support Excellence: Assist the Senior Category Manager in delivering best-in-class procurement, contracting, and commercial services to internal stakeholders across development, construction, and operations.

  • Strategic Procurement Leadership: Lead the development and execution of procurement strategies aligned with category plans and business objectives, driving supply chain improvements and ensuring quality standards in contracts.

  • Supplier & Stakeholder Engagement: Build and manage strategic supplier relationships, collaborate across business units and procurement teams, and ensure robust governance and contract compliance.

  • End-to-End Category Management: Own the full lifecycle of category management—from sourcing and tendering to contract execution and supplier performance monitoring—ensuring value leadership and risk mitigation.

  • Insight-Driven Decision Making: Conduct internal and external analysis to inform sourcing strategies, engage stakeholders effectively, and foster agile, legally sound contracts in partnership with Legal.

You have

  • Preferably Utilities Contract Regulations (Scotland) or Public Contract Regulations (Scotland)
  • Previous IT procurement experience in a similar industry with a personal proven track record in executing complex procurement activities.  Specific knowledge of cloud based suppliers would be advantageous.
  • Broad knowledge of contracts with ability to draft special terms, including dispute procedures.
  • Stakeholder Management, with a strong customer focus and the ability to influence people outside your own sphere of responsibility; Ability to challenge the status quo to deliver change
  • Degree educated or equivalent direct entry to recognised appropriate professional body.
