Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations - Inverness, Aberdeen, Glasgow or Perth.
Salary: Up to £75,000 depending on experience + car/cash allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

The role
SSEN Transmission currently have an opportunity for a Senior Engineer, specialising in the Electrical Auxiliary Systems to join the Offshore Engineering Team to provide specialist engineering support on high profile and technically complex substation and HVDC projects.
The role would suit an Experienced Electrical Engineer from either an OEM contractor and consultancy, looking to take the next step into a client-side organisation. Although Power Transmission experience is preferred it is not needed. Candidates with building service experience within data centres, industrial process systems (O&G, Chemical etc), and water industries are encouraged to apply.
You will
- Lead and review electrical building services designs (e.g. lighting, fire alarms, CCTV, BMS) for HVDC/AC converter stations, working closely with Tier 1 contractors and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure coordinated and compliant designs.
- Chair and contribute to key design and safety reviews including HAZID, HAZCON, and HAZOP, and manage technical deviations, risks, and interfaces across disciplines such as HV equipment, control & protection, and civil engineering.
- Provide expert technical oversight through the full project lifecycle, including equipment approvals, peer reviews, specification development, FAT/SAT attendance, and on-site supervision to ensure installation quality and standards compliance.
- Promote technical excellence and continuous improvement by developing engineering guidance, capturing lessons learned, and supporting future project specifications and training initiatives.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers, lead discipline-specific meetings, and help coordinate engineering activities to ensure knowledge transfer, skill development, and consistent delivery across the portfolio.
You have
- A degree in a relevant engineering subject and preferably have chartered status or be working towards this.
- The ability to Technically assess and critically challenge contractor submissions.
- Have excellent communication skills, with the ability to demonstrate diligence and to prioritise workload whilst building strong relationships across internal and external stakeholders, distilling key information messages.
- Familiarity with a range of technical solutions used in HVDC / AC Substations.
- Worked in a multi-discipline team, utilising Autodesk Construction Cloud BIM environment to manage and co-ordinate designs, raise and respond to contractor RFI/TQs, clash detection, 3D model development etc.
