The Business Relationship Manager (BRM) is accountable for ensuring technology investment delivers measurable business outcomes across SSE Transmission. Acting as a senior interface between the business and IT, the BRM shapes demand from clearly defined business problems, applying structured analysis to identify root causes, evaluate options, and inform strategic priorities, and ensures that digital and technology initiatives are aligned to operational, regulatory, and customer outcomes.

This role goes beyond stakeholder management; it requires strong commercial judgement, business insight, and sufficient technical understanding to challenge assumptions, shape solutions, and drive value through technology-enabled change. Candidates should be comfortable operating at both a strategic and hands on level from shaping long term roadmaps to defining detailed requirements and supporting delivery.

We are entering an exciting time within the Transmission business. We are investing over £20bn to upgrade the network infrastructure across the north of Scotland between now and 2030 as the region plays a leading role in the clean energy transition.

The role is critical in enabling digital transformation, enhancing customer experience, and supporting the delivery of large-scale projects across the transmission business unit.

You will

The BRM acts as a trusted partner, enabling value creation through technology, process optimisation, and cost-effective service delivery across complex projects and programmes. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Strategic Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships, acting as a trusted partner with key stakeholders including regulatory bodies, customers, and delivery partners
  • Strategic Alignment: Translating business strategy, regulatory drivers, and operational needs into clear roadmaps, supported by analysis of current state, future state, and capability gaps
  • Business Demand & Investment Shaping: Partnering with senior business leaders to define and shape business problems through structured analysis (root cause, process and data insight), ensuring opportunities are clearly understood before solutioning, with clear outcomes, benefits, and success measures.
  • Business Case & Value Definition: Develop and articulate clear business cases, including quantification of benefits, costs, risks, and success measures to support investment decisions and governance approvals.
  • Service Improvement: Proactively identify and deliver opportunities for optimisation, cost efficiency, and enhanced service quality.

You have

  • Industry Experience: Proven experience operating at the intersection of business strategy and IT delivery, with accountability for shaping and prioritising demand - ideally within energy, utilities, or infrastructure.
  • Business & Technical Acumen: Ability to translate complex business requirements into clear, actionable IT deliverables. Able to collaborate effectively with stakeholders across varying levels of technical understanding, ensuring alignment and clarity to business goals.
  • Regulatory Awareness: Strong understanding of the UK energy regulatory landscape, particularly the role and requirements set by Ofgem.
  • Stakeholder Influence & Negotiation: Experience influencing senior stakeholders through insight, analysis, and commercial judgement
  • Clear and Inclusive Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information in a way that is accessible and meaningful to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

About SSE

SSE’s purpose is to provide energy needed today while building a better world of energy for tomorrow.
