The role

Are you an aviation professional looking to apply your expertise to some of the UK and Ireland’s most ambitious renewable energy projects? SSE Renewables is seeking an Aviation Manager to lead the aviation strategy across our growing portfolio of onshore and offshore wind developments.

This is a unique opportunity to combine aviation knowledge, commercial insight, and project management expertise in a forward-looking role that shapes the future of clean energy while navigating complex regulatory and stakeholder landscapes. You’ll work at the cutting edge of energy and aviation innovation — solving real-world challenges, negotiating impactful agreements, and ensuring compliance across multiple jurisdictions.

You will

  • Lead aviation impact assessments on large-scale renewable developments, including radar interference, airspace safeguarding, lighting design and low-flying operational considerations – using specialist tools and analysis.
  • Drive commercial and contractual solutions, negotiating mitigation agreements and managing aviation-related project costs, risks, and opportunities across the project lifecycle.
  • Act as the key aviation interface with a range of stakeholders, including the Ministry of Defence, NATS, Civil Aviation Authority, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, and RenewableUK.
  • Support project development and bid teams by delivering strategic aviation inputs for feasibility assessments, scoping reports, EIA chapters, and planning submissions.
  • Represent SSE Renewables at industry forums, public inquiries and regulatory consultations, helping shape national policy and influence future standards at the intersection of aviation and renewable energy.

You have

  • Proven experience within civil or military aviation, air traffic management, radar systems, or safeguarding – with the ability to assess and mitigate aviation impacts on infrastructure projects.
  • Strong commercial and contractual awareness, ideally with experience negotiating agreements with aviation authorities, radar providers, or defence stakeholders.
  • A solid grasp of project management principles, including cost control, risk management, stakeholder engagement and multi-disciplinary team coordination.
  • Working knowledge of the UK and Irish planning systems as they relate to wind energy, aviation consents, and mitigation schemes.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder influencing skills, with a strategic mindset and ability to balance technical, regulatory and commercial considerations.
