Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office - Perth, Glasgow, Inverness or Aberdeen

Salary: £58,100 - £75,000 + car / allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances, and wellbeing.

The role

SSEN Transmission has a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer to provide specialist engineering support on high profile and technically complex projects.

You will

  • Review and support a wide range of civil design proposals and scopes throughout the development and execution of UGC, OHL and Substation projects, including:
    site/route selection, ground investigations, earthworks, drainage, buildings, transformer bunds, foundations, electrical infrastructure support, public road upgrades and landscaping.
  • Champion best practice by identifying improvements in design specifications, technology choices and approaches to managing engineering risk.
  • Supervise and guide Project Engineers within your specialism, applying strong technical leadership.
  • Foster a robust safety culture by applying CDM procedures diligently and ensuring all engineering activity complies with company, HSE and industry requirements.
  • Act as the primary technical contact for Lead Engineering Managers, Engineering Managers and Principal Engineers, ensuring engineering and quality risks are clearly communicated and addressed to support successful project delivery.

You have

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline, ideally with Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards it.
  • Demonstrable experience in infrastructure development, design or specification (preferably in transmission), with confidence in assessing technical problems and evaluating a range of solutions.
  • Strong technical understanding of relevant legislation, including CDM and ESQCR, and how these apply to transmission assets and projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting complex technical issues clearly to aid senior‑level decision‑making.
  • The ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels, with a proactive approach to building strong, lasting relationships.
