Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time

The role

Reporting directly to the Station Manager, you’ll provide specialist Safety, Health and Environment guidance and support to the Management Team, ensuring policies and practices remain aligned with current and emerging health and safety legislation. You’ll lead and direct the SHE team across areas including performance, loss prevention, environment, chemistry, stores, finance and procurement, training and administration, helping to drive safe, compliant and effective station operations.

Some of your other main accountabilities will include;

  • Leading the Process Support team across SHE, finance, logistics and science disciplines, driving high performance for Tarbert and the Peaking Plants while ensuring adherence to SSE policies, procedures, statutory requirements and site licence obligations.
  • Coordinating safety, occupational health and wellbeing initiatives, whether led by Corporate SSE or developed locally at station level, helping to embed a strong safety and wellbeing culture.
  • Support the development of Process Support team members through annual and bi-annual appraisals, identifying training needs and supporting development requests to build capability across the team.
  • Leading and coordinating investigations into relevant incidents, identifying solutions, preparing reports where required and sharing safety learning and information effectively across the wider SSE organisation.

To be successful in this role, we would love you to have;

  • A degree-level qualification, NFQ Level 8 or equivalent, accompanied by extensive relevant experience in a SHE, engineering or financial discipline.
  • A strong understanding of Thermal plant processes, performance measures and key operational priorities.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to identify and apply best practice from both inside and outside the organisation.
  • The drive to deliver incremental improvements across Tarbert and Peaking Plants’ key performance indicators.
  • Strong forward-planning skills, with the ability to anticipate future challenges and put effective plans in place.
