Start Date: August/ September 2026

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Power Station Fitting Apprenticeship - a hands‑on, technical programme designed to give you the skills, confidence and real‑world experience needed to build a long term career in the energy industry.

This four year programme blends academic learning with practical training, allowing you to gain recognised qualifications while making a meaningful contribution to the electricity network that supports homes, businesses and communities.

Programme Structure

Stage 1: Academic Study (18 months)

You’ll begin your journey with full‑time, residential training delivered through an approved engineering training provider. During this phase, you will:

  • Learn core Electrical and Mechanical Engineering principles
  • Develop essential hand skills through the Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) qualification
  • Build the technical foundation you’ll rely on throughout your apprenticeship

This stage gives you the space to focus fully on developing your engineering knowledge, building confidence and preparing for hands‑on work. Please note you will be required to live away from home during this period. Travel and accommodation are provided, but opportunities to return home during term breaks may be limited.

Stage 2: Work‑Based Learning

You’ll then move into the field, working alongside experienced craft professionals who will guide and support you as you develop your skills further. Here, you’ll:

  • Apply your academic learning to real engineering tasks
  • Work on essential equipment and infrastructure that keeps electricity flowing
  • Gain practical experience that helps you grow into a competent and confident craftsperson
  • Work towards completing an industry‑recognised qualification

This stage gives you the chance to make a visible impact - contributing to a network that’s becoming smarter, more resilient and central to the UK’s journey to Net Zero.

What We’re Looking For

We want motivated individuals who are ready to learn, get hands‑on and take pride in high‑quality, safe work. To succeed in this apprenticeship, you should bring:

  • A proactive, practical mindset, with the ability to adapt when things change
  • A willingness to learn engineering skills and apply them safely and accurately
  • Strong problem‑solving abilities and the resilience to work through challenges
  • A safety‑first attitude — living our principle: “If it’s not safe, we don’t do it.”
  • A good standard of Maths and English, supporting engineering calculations and clear report writing
