Asset Policy & Strategy Manager

Base Location: Flexible Scotland | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however, need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSEN offices or depots around Scotland, Perth, Aberdeen or Inverness 

Salary: £59,800 - £89,800 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role 

The Asset Policy and Strategy Manager will be a part of the Network Strategy and Assurance team and is responsible for providing risk-based assurance of SSEN Transmission’s Asset Management System. 

You will manage the internal audit programme, facilitate external certification audits and provide assurance guidance to senior stakeholders. Working with assurance and business teams, you will ensure activity is coordinated, evidence-led and focused on key risks and value. 

You will 

• Lead the Assurance function within Network Strategy and Assurance, setting priorities and standards, managing team performance, resources and workload, and developing auditor capability through coaching, professional development and succession planning. 

• Own and maintain the Asset Management Internal Audit Procedure and the Asset Management System Review, Assurance & Development Strategy. 

• Develop and deliver a risk-based Asset Management internal audit programme aligned with the ISO 55001 certification cycle, overseeing the full audit lifecycle and escalating significant issues. 

• Act as the principal contact for external ISO 55001 certification audits, coordinating the certification body, audit scope, schedules, evidence, site visits and stakeholder preparation. 

• Direct assurance reporting and corrective-action oversight, identifying systemic risks and improvement opportunities, coordinating with Risk and Assurance and Group functions, and take responsibility for the Directorate’s annual Letter of Assurance return. 

You have 

• Demonstrable experience of managing audit programme, assurance and governance of management systems within a complex, regulated or asset-intensive organisation, with strong working knowledge of ISO 55001 and risk-based management system auditing. 

• Experience developing and delivering assurance programmes, overseeing external certification audits and provider relationships, and using assurance outcomes to drive measurable organisational improvement. 

• A relevant professional qualification or equivalent experience in audit, assurance, risk or asset management, together with a recognised Lead Auditor qualification or demonstrable equivalent audit management experience. An Institute of Asset Management qualification or relevant professional membership would be advantageous. 

• Strong people-management capability, with experience of setting direction, managing competing priorities and developing the technical competence of team members. 

• Strong analytical, communication and professional judgement, with the ability to interpret complex evidence, identify systemic weaknesses, present audit, risk and assurance matters clearly to senior stakeholders, provide constructive feedback and maintain neutrality.  

A full and valid UK driving licence is also required, as travel to SSEN Transmission sites and offices forms part of the role.
