The role

As an Accountant within the Transmission Operations team, you’ll support the Senior Finance Manager taking responsibility for delivering end-to-end finance support for the Operations directorate. This is a broad and varied role that combines business partnering and financial planning & analysis (FP&A).

You’ll work closely with the operational leadership teams, ensuring financial performance of operational activities is well understood, controlled and reported effectively. This includes being the main finance contact in supporting regulatory cost and volumes reporting and driving unit cost reporting and challenge.

This role will also collaborate with the wider Transmission Finance function, including Central FP&A, Regulatory Reporting, and Regulatory Finance teams, to contribute to BU-wide financial outputs and ensure alignment across all key deliverables

You’ll also work closely with the Capital Investment & Financial Control Finance teams along with other key internal stakeholders and our Regulator, Ofgem. The need to understand how the business operates and the nature of our regulatory obligations under our RIIO price controls are a key aspect of this role as well as providing support and robust challenge to colleagues.

You will

  • Assist in reviewing cost forecasts (opex and capex) and produce variance reports against our regulatory allowances and volumes.
  • Provide advice to our Capital Investment Finance colleagues and the business over projects qualifying under the various funding mechanisms within our licence and calculation of these when required.
  • Assist in the close out of RIIO-T2 whilst assisting with business readiness for the RIIO-T3 price control.
  • Attend the Operations monthly review board and provide challenge to costs and help drive productivity and unit cost performance.
  • Continual improvement and evaluation of existing processes and practices.

In doing this role you will need to obtain an understanding on the key projects within our portfolio along with all the relevant funding streams. This may require attending project review boards, working closely with project teams, and being a key member in the delivery of projects within budget and on time.

You have

  • A qualification with a professional accounting body (e.g. ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA)
  • Experience of creating and delivering reports to finance and non-finance colleagues, conveying messages which can be complex.
  • The ability to effectively plan, organise, and prioritise tasks and activities to maximise productivity.
  • Experience with accurately processing information with precision and minimal errors.
  • Experience in the use of Office 365 applications.
