What is the Role?

As UX Manager, you will define, lead and embed best‑in‑class UX and service design practice across SSE Business Energy. This is a senior leadership role, ensuring UX is treated as a strategic design discipline, shaping product strategy, delivery decisions and technology investment – not a delivery afterthought.

You’ll lead a multidisciplinary design team and act as a trusted senior partner to Product, Technology and Business leaders, ensuring our digital products, platforms and services are intuitive, accessible, scalable and commercially effective.

As part of your role, you will:

  • Define and lead the UX and service design strategy for Business Energy, explicitly aligned to business outcomes, customer impact and product value.
  • Embed user‑centred design as a value‑driving discipline, ensuring UX insight directly influences prioritisation, investment decisions and delivery trade‑offs.
  • Own UX standards, accessibility and design quality, holding teams accountable for experiences that demonstrably improve conversion, adoption, efficiency and satisfaction.
  • Lead and evolve the design system, enabling faster, more consistent delivery and measurable improvements in build efficiency and experience quality.
  • Partner with Product and Technology leaders to shape roadmaps and solutions that balance user needs, commercial outcomes and technical sustainability.
  • Oversee user research, experimentation and UX analytics, using evidence to validate decisions, track outcomes and demonstrate realised value.
  • Build and lead a high‑performing UX and service design team, focusing on impact, quality and continuous improvement rather than activity alone.
  • Champion UX at senior leadership level, clearly articulating the link between design decisions and customer, commercial and operational performance.
  • Own UX tooling and vendor relationships, ensuring spend delivers tangible value and supports measurable business outcomes.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we’d love you to have:

  • Leadership experience in UX, service design or digital product design within complex organisations.
  • Deep expertise in interaction design, information architecture and service design.
  • Proven ownership of design systems, UX standards and accessibility compliance.
  • Strong experience with user research, experimentation and UX analytics.
  • A track record of influencing product and technology strategy at senior levels.
  • Experience leading teams through change and raising UX maturity across an organisation.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the confidence to operate with senior management.
  • A strategic, systems‑thinking mindset with a passion for user outcomes and design quality.
