About the Role
Base Location: The work will be home based, we will set the Forbury Reading office as your base 'office' location for training and occasional office visits.
Salary: The role pays the Living Wage and the contract is 10 hours a week to allow it to fit around study responsibilities.

We are looking to recruit a Meteorology student into a part-time role supporting operational meteorologists in SSE’s Energy Markets (EM) business. EM has the responsibility to undertake energy trading and energy balancing activities on behalf of the Group's wholesale energy portfolio.
This role would suit a second or third year meteorology student looking to develop the necessary skills for a future role in operational meteorology. The ideal candidates should demonstrate a genuine interest in weather systems and renewable energy. You’ll get the opportunity to learn from our experienced meteorologists and understand how the weather impacts the energy industry.
Your key accountabilities will include:
Reviewing and analysing weather information, providing commentary as required to different parts of the SSE Group.
Produce and issue weather hazard maps to the business.
Update and issue temperature forecasts to the business.
Update weather and renewable energy forecasts to the business.
Providing insight into the short-term weather patterns.
Supporting our Forecasting & Trading teams, working closely with Senior Meteorologists to develop your experience, building on your responsibilities as your experience and business understanding grows.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role we would love you to have:-
- A genuine interest and passion for understanding and interpreting weather systems.
- Good communication skills and a collaborative approach.
- Motivated, self-starter with the capacity to work independently, and as part of a remote team.
- Some experience of analytical tools is desirable but not essential.
