The Role
This is an opportunity to play a leading role in shaping Italy's renewable energy future.
As a Senior Project Engineer, you'll lead the engineering delivery of a portfolio of utility-scale renewable energy projects across Italy, providing technical leadership from early-stage development through construction, commissioning and operational handover.
Working within our growing Italian business, you'll help deliver a significant pipeline of onshore wind projects while supporting the wider deployment of solar PV and battery energy storage technologies. You'll influence key engineering and investment decisions, challenge conventional thinking, and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest technical standards.
This is a highly visible role offering the chance to work on some of the most significant renewable energy developments in Italy while contributing to SSE Renewables' continued growth across Southern Europe.
You Will
Lead the engineering delivery of utility-scale renewable energy projects across Italy, acting as the technical authority from project development through construction, commissioning and operational handover.
Drive the optimisation of project designs, engineering studies and technical specifications, ensuring solutions are safe, compliant, cost-effective, constructible and designed for long-term operational performance.
Provide technical leadership throughout project development and procurement activities, supporting site selection, design development, technical due diligence, tender preparation and contractor selection.
Manage engineering consultants, Owner's Engineers, OEMs and contractors, ensuring high-quality engineering outputs while maintaining effective relationships with grid operators, regulatory authorities and other key stakeholders.
Identify and manage technical, programme and cost risks, champion safety by design principles and promote continuous improvement and value engineering to maximise project performance and delivery outcomes.
You Have
A degree in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical or Energy Engineering (or equivalent experience) together with significant experience delivering utility-scale renewable energy projects, ideally within the Italian market.
Strong technical expertise in renewable project delivery, including wind farm balance of plant infrastructure, MV/HV electrical systems, substations, transmission assets and grid connection requirements.
Experience reviewing and approving engineering studies, technical documentation, drawings and contractor deliverables, supported by a strong understanding of Italian engineering standards, permitting and project development processes.
Well-developed commercial and stakeholder management skills with experience supporting procurement, contractor management, budget control, value engineering and collaboration across multidisciplinary project teams.
Excellent communication and leadership skills, fluency in English and the ability to build trusted relationships with developers, consultants, contractors, regulators and project partners. Professional Italian language skills are preferred, with Spanish language skills considered an advantage.
