The role

As SSEN Transmission continues to grow at pace, the Network Development Team is seeking a Senior Network Development Manager to help shape the future of the electricity network. This pivotal role sits at the heart of our transmission business, leading the early development of network reinforcement projects and ensuring that future demand and generation growth are planned, coordinated, and delivered effectively.

Working closely with System Planning and Regional Project Development teams, you will play a key part in turning strategic needs into well defined, deliverable projects, ensuring that the right investment is made at the right time to support a secure, low carbon energy system.

You will

  • Lead the development of network design concepts within the Area System Plans, taking account of on-shore and off-shore connections, asset renewal programmes, and recognising the spatial and local constraints.
  • Support the LCP Development teams in the coordination of multiple inter-dependant network reinforcements and support the feasibility assessment of designs and technologies in the opportunity phase of the projects.
  • Build and maintain productive and enduring relationships with internal stakeholders, NESO, consultants and developers to support the sustainable development of these projects.
  • In conjunction with the Network Development Manager, identify key priorities within the SSEN regions and agree required strategies to support the continued development.
  • Have the ability to work independently and show initiative, proactively setting priorities and consistently steering projects through to a successful outcome.

You have

  • An engineering qualification at degree level, or equivalent along with a detailed understanding of electrical networks and the SSE Transmission Business, the regulatory requirements, and commitments.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience of infrastructure project development through the optioneering and initial design phases, with an ability to develop the optimum project solution, deliver to timescales and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and ability to present complex detail to non-technical stakeholders and management.
  • An ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams to deliver multiple project outputs to inform key processes such as cross TO Network Development Strategies and Needs Cases.
  • Knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other key relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
